In occasione dell’evento inaugurale dell’Anno del Turismo Europa-Cina che si terrà domani a Palazzo Ducale, il Gruppo 25 aprile augura il benvenuto alla Delegazione della Repubblica Popolare Cinese sottolineando come Venezia e la sua laguna, che sono state scelte per ospitare questo evento, rappresentano un luogo di incontro e d’armonia tra i popoli, la cui unicità si basa su un raffinato quanto delicato equilibrio tra l’uomo e l’ambiente.
Perseguire l’armonia richiede particolari caratteristiche di sensibilità e comprensione, significa saper dosare con attenzione i singoli elementi, misurare l’impatto dei singoli interventi sull’ambiente che li accoglie.
Questo è il messaggio delle bandierine tibetane di preghiera con cui porgiamo il nostro benvenuto: emblema filosofico e non politico con cui da secoli si invocano le menti illuminate affinché spargano la conoscenza e preservino l’armonia fra i 5 elementi: 5 bandierine blu come lo spazio, bianco come l’acqua, gialla come la terra, rossa come il fuoco e verde come l’aria.
La Repubblica Popolare Cinese come altri Paesi prima di lei ha già toccato con mano i danni che vengono provocati quando l’armonia degli elementi viene minacciata dall’uomo. Per questo, in una città come Venezia che è stata a lungo simbolo dell’armonia di una comunità di persone ed esempio di un rapporto saggio e rispettoso con l’ambiente circostante, riteniamo che incrementare ulteriormente i flussi turistici sia una follia che rischiamo di pagare tutti a caro prezzo, snaturando le caratteristiche che hanno reso Venezia unica al mondo e svuotandola dei suoi abitanti, della sua cultura, dei suoi mestieri tradizionali. In uno spazio fisico limitato come questo, dove per le famiglie è sempre più difficile trovare un alloggio, la nostra città non può accogliere un numero indefinito di turisti senza alimentare tensioni indesiderate e indesiderabili.
L’incapacità di pensare in un’ottica di ampio respiro e la cupidigia sono nemiche dell’armonia e della prosperità. Venezia è stata sempre considerata come il punto d’arrivo della Via della Seta, Venezia ha sempre avuto con la Cina un rapporto di rispetto e di amicizia. In virtù di questo antico legame, a chiunque voglia investire in questa Città chiediamo moderazione e saggezza: un antico proverbio cinese dice “la medesima acqua può sostenere o affondare una nave”.
Un eccesso di turismo affonderebbe quella stessa città da cui gli investitori sperano di ricavare un giusto profitto. Da parte nostra aggiungiamo: potrebbe mai essere “giusto”, un profitto basato sulla distruzione di una civiltà millenaria? Ai nostri ospiti, che sono graditi quanto lo sono quelli di qualsiasi altra nazionalità, chiediamo di ricordare l’antica saggezza che ha fatto della Cina un faro di civiltà quando altre nazioni ancora brancolavano nel Medioevo. Se questo – come molti pronosticano – sarà il “secolo cinese”, che venga ricordato come l’avvento di menti illuminate e non accecate dal profitto di breve termine che distrugge le basi della prosperità futura e l’armonia degli elementi.
On the occasion of the inaugural event of the EU-China Tourism Year (ECTY), hosted by Venice, we are pleased to welcome the Delegation of the People’s Republic of China.
Venice and its Lagoon, which have been chosen to host this event, represent a place of meeting and harmony among people, the uniqueness of which is founded in a dynamic equilibrium, as refined as it is delicate, between humans and the environment.
The pursuit of harmony requires paying close attention to all elements, as well as measuring the impact of each project on the environment in which it will be placed. This is the message of the prayer flags of the picture: a philosophical, not a political emblem, which for centuries has called on enlightened minds to spread this consciousness and preserve harmony among all elements, because health and harmony are produced through the balance of the five elements.
Five flags that are green like the air, red like fire, yellow like earth, white like water, and blue like space. Traditionally, these prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength and wisdom.
The People’s Republic of China, like Italy and other countries, has firsthand experience of the damage that occurs when the balance of the five elements is broken.
Likewise, in a city such as Venice, which has long been a symbol of harmony between communities and with the surrounding environment, we believe that further increases intouristic pressure would threaten the special features which have made Venice unique in the world and jeopardize the remaining chances of a living community with its own residents, culture and traditional skills, that are already now under huge pressure.
In a limited physical space such as this, our city cannot welcome an indefinite number of people or hotels. The inability to think with a broader perspective and human greed are the enemies of harmony and prosperity. Venice has always been considered as the destination of the Silk Road, and Venice has always had a relationship of mutual respect and friendship with China. In light of this ancient link, may we respectfully recommend moderation and wisdom of those who want to invest in this City:
as an ancient Chinese proverb says, “the same water can float or sink a ship”.
An excess of tourism could sink this City from which investors hope to earn a fair profit. May our honourable guests recall the ancient wisdom that made China a beacon of civilization when other nations still groped in the dark during Medieval times. If this – as many predict – is to be the “Chinese Century”, let it be recalled as the arrival of minds that are enlightened, and not blinded by short term profits that destroy the foundations of future and long lasting prosperity.
